H.R. No. 127
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Melvin Bruce Bayless of Yoakum
from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) brings to a
close a 38-year career of outstanding service to the State of Texas;
and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bayless earned a degree in civil engineering
from Texas A&M University and four years later became a licensed
professional engineer; he joined TxDOT in August 1965, as an
engineering aide hired for the summer in the Yoakum District's La
Grange Area Office; and
WHEREAS, Since beginning full-time work with TxDOT in 1970,
Mr. Bayless has served as an engineering assistant in Yoakum, an
area engineer in Columbus, and district director of transportation
planning and development; in 1998, he was appointed to his current
position as district engineer, where he assumed the oversight of 11
Central Texas counties; and
WHEREAS, Hundreds of transportation projects in the Yoakum
District bear the mark of Melvin Bayless's engineering expertise,
firm integrity, and dedication to his work, and area citizens and
countless travelers are truly in his debt; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Melvin Bruce Bayless
on the occasion of his retirement from the Texas Department of
Transportation and extend to him sincere appreciation for his
outstanding public service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Bayless as an expression of high esteem by the
Texas House of Representatives.
