R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Kathryn Jones of Austin is bringing to a close a long and distinguished career with her retirement as an accounting clerk with the Texas House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, On February 18, 1974, at the age of 52, Mrs. Jones began her remarkable 29 years of service, during which she consistently demonstrated the highest integrity as well as a most charming personality; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones originally hails from Indiana, and citing a special ability to confront any challenge and overcome any obstacle, coworkers fondly refer to her as the "original" Indiana Jones; the fearless Mrs. Jones has been known to climb trees and use a chainsaw to trim branches, and she has mowed her yard well past midnight, later wondering why her lawnmower has mysteriously disappeared; and WHEREAS, Despite giving up her Harley-Davidson motorcycle a number of years ago, Mrs. Jones still enjoys making an annual road trip back to Indiana, driving most of the way herself in her Lincoln Town Car; and WHEREAS, In addition to having an adventurous spirit and boundless energy, Mrs. Jones possesses some extraordinary culinary skills; in the past, she has delighted many a taste bud with her delicious turkey with dressing, chocolate cake, buttermilk pound cake, and the best sausage gravy in the Northern Hemisphere; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones has been a member of the Eastern Star for nearly 50 years, and she has served as grand officer and past worthy matron of the Austin chapter; an active volunteer for Eastern Star, Mrs. Jones works at the Frank Erwin Center during the high school basketball play-offs, and she once coordinated a dinner for hundreds of Eastern Star members and climbed the roof of her house to prune yet more tree branches, all in one day; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family, Mrs. Jones has proudly reared her grandson, David Wesley Jones, who now attends college; her granddaughter, Kasey Jones, studies at the Pharmaceutical School at The University of Texas at Austin; and WHEREAS, Kathryn Jones has ably served the people of Texas for nearly three decades, and she has greatly contributed to the effective running of the state's government, while leaving an unforgettable impression on those who were fortunate enough to have worked alongside her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Kathryn Jones on the occasion of her retirement from the Texas House of Representatives and extend to her best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
