H.R. No. 154
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Bernie K. Dodd from the Texas
Department of Transportation (TxDOT) brings to a close a 35-year
career of distinguished service to the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dodd began his outstanding tenure with TxDOT as
an engineering assistant in the design section of the Tyler
District and became assistant resident engineer after receiving his
professional engineering license; in 1983, he became area engineer
in Athens and was later assigned to the same position for the
Palestine area office; and
WHEREAS, With his promotion, Mr. Dodd assumed the oversight
of construction and maintenance projects in Anderson, Henderson,
and Van Zandt counties; during his remarkable tenure, he has
assisted the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in implementing
roadway improvements throughout the Texas Freshwater Fisheries
Center, which serves more than 300,000 visitors per year, and he
also helped to develop the first Rural Intelligent Transportation
System to ease overwhelming traffic congestion in Canton; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dodd has proven himself a leader in his field,
recently serving on a statewide task force to make routine
maintenance budget recommendations; duly recognized for his
efforts, he earned the 2002 Luther DeBerry Award, presented
annually to a TxDOT engineer who has made great contributions to the
traveling public; and
WHEREAS, Hundreds of transportation projects in East Texas
bear the mark of Bernie Dodd's engineering expertise, integrity,
and dedication to his work, and area citizens and countless
travelers are truly in his debt; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby honor Bernie K. Dodd, P.E.,
on the occasion of his retirement as Athens and Palestine area
engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation and extend to
him sincere appreciation for his exemplary public service; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Dodd as an expression of high esteem by the Texas
House of Representatives.
