R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Becky Kitching Moeller of Corpus Christi has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Texas AFL-CIO, becoming the first female officer ever chosen by the organization; and WHEREAS, Active in the labor movement since 1967, when she joined Communication Workers of America Local 6137 in Corpus Christi, Ms. Moeller has served her local union in a variety of positions through the years, including job steward, chief steward, executive board member, vice president, and secretary-treasurer, and as its president since 1999; and WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller's work at the regional and state levels is equally impressive; she enjoyed a productive tenure as president of the Coastal Bend Labor Council, has been a valued member of the Texas AFL-CIO Executive Board, and also chaired the Texas AFL-CIO Scholarship Committee; and WHEREAS, Appointed by Governor Ann Richards to serve as chair of the commission overseeing the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, she has also worked to benefit her fellow citizens as a member of the United Way Board of Governors and the Corpus Christi Workforce Development Board; and WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Moeller has been active in the political process through her longtime role as precinct chair of the Nueces County Democratic Party and her participation in numerous voter registration drives; and WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family, Ms. Moeller takes great pleasure in the relationship she shares with her daughter, Kristie, her step-daughter, Misty, and her grandchildren, Taylor, Taryn, and Savannah; and WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller's remarkable contributions to organized labor in the State of Texas are an inspiration to all who know her, and it is most appropriate that she be honored at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Becky Kitching Moeller on her election as secretary-treasurer of the Texas AFL-CIO and extend to her sincere best wishes for success in her new post; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Moeller as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
