H.R. No. 168


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Roberto Gonzalez of Eagle Pass is stepping down as board president of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, an organization that helps local governments to protect the environment, improve quality of life, and promote economic development in South Texas; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Eagle Pass High School and Texas A&I University, Mr. Gonzalez has devoted his entire professional life toward making Maverick County a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; after earning a bachelor's degree in education, he joined the staff of the Eagle Pass Independent School District as an instructor and summer programs coordinator, and in 1974 he was named director of the Laredo Junior College Talent Search Program in Eagle Pass; and WHEREAS, Three years later, he entered public service as a municipal employee and would ultimately serve as manpower coordinator, school board member, and the town's first Mexican American city manager; today he is the manager of the city's Water and Waste Water Department, a post he has held since 1982 with great integrity and commitment; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman leads by example and is highly respected by his peers in Texas and Mexico for his work with the American Water Works Association, International City Management Association, and International Public Health Advisory Board; he is also well known in his community for his support of many notable civic and charitable organizations, including Little League baseball, the chamber of commerce, the Maverick County Public Health District Advisory Board, the Maverick County Development Corporation, and Southwest Texas Junior College; and WHEREAS, An inspiration to all those who have had the privilege of working with him, Mr. Gonzalez has demonstrated extraordinary dedication to the mission of the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, and his myriad accomplishments in behalf of area citizens and his fellow board members will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Roberto Gonzalez of Eagle Pass for his outstanding contributions to Maverick County and the State of Texas and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gonzalez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
