H.R. No. 170
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 20 years, Medina County's Tex-spice has
provided the State of Texas with outstanding service while helping
mentally challenged residents learn valuable skills and strive
toward achieving their full potential; and
WHEREAS, Located in Devine, Tex-spice is a joint venture
between the Medina County Sheltered Workshop, Incorporated, and
Hill Country Mental Health Mental Retardation (MHMR) Community
Services; growing considerably since its founding in 1983, the
workshop initially employed 5 disabled adults, while today nearly
50 work in the plant; and
WHEREAS, Tex-spice packages 33 different spices and ships to
more than 40 facilities across the Lone Star State, with annual
sales exceeding $850,000; and
WHEREAS, Providing a commendable service to disabled
residents, the workshop dispatches vans to shuttle employees to and
from work; these individuals are taught how to perform essential
tasks, providing them with an opportunity to be productive and gain
self-esteem and offering family members a more routine lifestyle
during business hours; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 20 years, Tex-spice has enabled
countless mentally challenged adults to live fulfilling, happy, and
healthy lives within their community, and the efforts of all
involved are indeed worthy of praise; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Tex-spice on
its 20th anniversary and commend the Medina County Sheltered
Workshop, Inc., and Hill Country MHMR for their exceptional service
in support of this endeavor; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Tex-spice as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
