R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Crystal City lost a beloved neighbor, friend, and educator with the untimely passing of Ruben Alonzo on July 28, 2003, at the age of 45; and WHEREAS, One of 11 children, Mr. Alonzo shared a special bond with his siblings, as they played together, supported one another, and grew to maturity in the warm embrace of a caring family; the close-knit clan was headed by devoted parents, Maria Rivera Alonzo and Emeterio M. Alonzo, Jr., who imparted the virtues of hard work, integrity, and compassion to their children; and WHEREAS, The meaningful traditions and solid lessons learned from his parents were closely held by Mr. Alonzo; by becoming a teacher and raising a family of his own, this beloved gentleman was able to pass those values on to a new generation; and WHEREAS, A longtime resident of his South Texas community and an active member of the "Sociedad Funeraria Miguel Hidalgo," Mr. Alonzo was an excellent math teacher who won the admiration and respect of teachers, students, and parents alike for the professionalism and dedication he brought to the classroom each day; and WHEREAS, Imbued with tremendous warmth and kindness, Ruben Alonzo was a devoted family man, mentor, and friend to those who were privileged to share his life, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Ruben Alonzo and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Rosa Torres Alonzo; to his sons, Emeterio Alonzo and Ruben Alonzo, Jr.; to his daughters, Belynda T. Alonzo and Carolyn Rose T. Alonzo; to his mother, Maria Rivera Alonzo; to his brothers, Ramon, Gerardo, Victor, Javier, and our esteemed colleague, State Representative Roberto Alonzo; to his sisters, Maria Luisa Del Toro, Monica Alonzo, Diana Alonzo, and Maria Ana Alonzo; and to the other relatives and many friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ruben Alonzo.
