R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Evelyn Weiss Saxe on August 13, 2003, at the age of 86, has deeply saddened not only her family but also many residents of Houston; and WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, she was born on December 27, 1916, to Samuel and Sarah Weiss and later attended Brooklyn College, from which she earned a degree; and WHEREAS, She married her high school sweetheart, Edwin Saxe, in 1938; the couple enjoyed a close and fulfilling relationship over the course of 44 years until his passing in 1982 and took great pride in their two children and two granddaughters; and WHEREAS, Together with her husband, Mrs. Saxe founded the S&S Sample Shop, a noted women's apparel boutique in Bellaire, when she moved with her family to Houston in the early 1960s; in addition to family and business responsibilities, she made time in her full schedule for reading, traveling, and promoting women's rights; and WHEREAS, Those who were fortunate enough to know Evelyn Saxe will long miss her passion for life and her generous spirit, and she will surely be remembered with affection in the hearts and minds of the countless people whose lives she touched for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Evelyn Weiss Saxe and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Stephen Weiss; to her son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Cathrine Saxe; to her granddaughters, Sondee Weiss and Elizabeth Saxe; and to all those who mourn the passing of this beloved woman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Evelyn Weiss Saxe.
