R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Shelby M. Elliot is retiring after 13 years of outstanding leadership as president of Texas Chiropractic College on December 31, 2003; and WHEREAS, Dr. Elliot earned a degree from Texas Chiropractic College in 1950 and a subsequent degree from Logan College of Chiropractic two years later; installed as president of Texas Chiropractic College in 1990, he has ably led the school through a period of significant expansion and physical plant improvement while continuing to strengthen academic programs during his illustrious tenure; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman is licensed to practice in Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and Kansas; he has held countless elective positions in local, state, and national chiropractic groups, and served an unprecedented five-year term as president of the Board of Governors of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA); a widely known and respected figure in his profession, Dr. Elliot has addressed the World Chiropractic Health Organization, the International Chiropractors Association, the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, and many chiropractic colleges; and WHEREAS, Duly recognized for his efforts, Dr. Elliot has received such prestigious honors as the Lifetime Chiropractic Achievement Award, the William D. Harper Science of Existence Award, Pasadena's Citizen of the Year Award, and ACA's Doctor of the Year Award; and WHEREAS, For 13 years, Dr. Elliot has been an exceptional asset to Texas Chiropractic College, reviving the institution from severe fiscal decline and advancing its national reputation for producing outstanding chiropractic physicians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Shelby M. Elliot on his upcoming retirement and his distinguished career as a practitioner of chiropractic medicine; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Elliot as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
