H.R. No. 198



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Louie Alamia of Edinburg has truly distinguished 
himself as a freshman outfielder for The University of Texas-Pan 
American (UTPA) baseball team; and
	WHEREAS, Throughout the course of his regular and postseason 
play, Mr. Alamia was a model of consistent excellence on the field 
and in the batter's box; starting 48 games, he compiled a .980 
fielding average and tallied only two errors; on offense, Mr. 
Alamia led his team with a .381 batting average and a .453 on-base 
percentage while ranking second in stolen bases and slugging 
percentage; and
	WHEREAS, For most of the season, Mr. Alamia was ranked second 
nationally among freshmen in hitting, and he tied the all-time 
record at UTPA with a 22-game hitting streak; finishing the season 
with a 12-game hitting streak, he demonstrated his batting prowess 
throughout the season, garnering 16 multiple-hit games, six 
multiple-RBI games, and a remarkable five-hit game during the NCAA 
Tournament qualifier; and
	WHEREAS, In recognition of his excellence in baseball, Mr. 
Alamia became the first UTPA freshman All-American and was selected 
second team All-Independent; Mr. Alamia also shared the UTPA Male 
Newcomer of the Year award; and
	WHEREAS, By combining his considerable athletic gifts with a 
determination to perform at the highest level, this exceptional 
young man has become one of collegiate baseball's most promising 
and skillful players; and
	WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized 
this outstanding baseball player by authoring this resolution in 
his behalf during the 78th legislative session; now, therefore, be 
it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Louie Alamia 
for his achievements in baseball and extend to him best wishes for 
continued success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Alamia as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
