R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Nadine Lois Spencer Cary of Fort
Worth on August 2, 2003, at the age of 82, has deeply saddened the
family and many friends of this beloved woman; and
WHEREAS, Born July 24, 1921, in Karnack, she graduated from
Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas and went on to attend
Wiley College in Marshall; Mrs. Cary subsequently enjoyed a
successful 28-year career with the Fort Worth Independent School
District as a secretary in local schools until her retirement; and
WHEREAS, A woman who treasured her religious beliefs, she was
a valued congregant of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church, where
for many years she was a member of the choir; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Cary shared 58 years with her husband, Reby
Cary, whom she lovingly supported throughout his three terms in the
Texas House of Representatives; a proud and devoted mother, she
nurtured and sustained her daughter Faith with tenderness, insight,
and wisdom; and
WHEREAS, In addition to caring for her family, Mrs. Cary gave
generously of her time and many talents to a host of worthwhile
community endeavors; LINKS, Inc., the Maid and Matron Club, Fort
Worth Republican Women, and the Bunche-Ellington Club were among
the numerous organizations that benefited from her tireless
enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her lifetime, Nadine Cary devoted
herself to family, friends, and community; those who were
privileged to share her life will surely miss her presence and hold
dear the memories of her warmth, affection, and understanding; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Nadine Lois Spencer Cary and extend sincere sympathy to her family:
to her husband, the Honorable Reby Cary; to her daughter, Faith
Cary-Ellis; to her brothers, B. J. Spencer, Jr., and Oscar Lee
Spencer; to her sisters, Odetta Russeau, Jean Spencer, Brenda
Walker, Sandra Taylor, and Mary Dell Evans; to her grandchildren,
Caleb Larkin, Lauren Larkin, and Blaine Ellis; to her
great-granddaughter, Nadia Analie Larkin; and to her other
relatives and many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nadine Lois
Spencer Cary.
