R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The departure of Kay Braught of Weslaco from the Weslaco Public Library board provides a fitting opportunity to recognize this longtime advocate for libraries, education, and literacy for her myriad contributions to the community; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Braught taught in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Corpus Christi before moving to the Rio Grande Valley in the 1940s, where she instructed Weslaco students in biology and home economics; and WHEREAS, A dedicated volunteer in her community who has been named Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Mrs. Braught belongs to the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco, and she has led the "Covenant Visitors Group" for 18 years and served as education chairperson; pursuing her deep passion for the arts, she has also worked tirelessly for the Weslaco Fine Arts Club and the Mid-Valley Book Club; and WHEREAS, This esteemed lady has further benefited the Valley through her more than 20 years of service to the Friends of the Weslaco Public Library; sharing her tremendous expertise and enthusiasm for books and learning, she has devoted her time and energy to be an unofficial ambassador for libraries, education, and literacy in her community; and WHEREAS, From May 2002 to July 2003, Mrs. Braught served on the Weslaco Public Library board; her tireless devotion and extensive knowledge have earned her the abiding respect and admiration of her fellow board members; and WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, she has received the love and support of her husband of 62 years, former Weslaco Mayor Gene Braught, and she looks forward to spending more quality time with him; and WHEREAS, The positive influence Mrs. Braught has had on her community will extend through the generations, and her legacy of good work truly deserves legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Kay Braught on her exemplary service to the Weslaco Public Library and her contributions to the arts in her community and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Braught as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
