H.C.R. No. 14
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, journalist and
folksinger Allen Martin has been a mainstay on the Texas music
scene; and
WHEREAS, After arriving in Austin from Kentucky in the 1960s,
Mr. Martin made friends with such Lone Star legends as Willie
Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Rusty Wier, Allen Damron, Kenneth
Threadgill, and Gary Nunn and played at favorite Austin venues,
including the Split Rail, Castle Creek, Saxon Pub, and the
Armadillo; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in the 1970s, this multitalented
individual focused his talent and energy on a career in radio and
television, but he continued to make time to perform; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Martin's current plans include curtailing much
of his radio duties to devote his energies to playing music, which
will take him on the road to Florida and the Eastern seaboard over
the coming weeks; and
WHEREAS, During his many years in Texas, Mr. Martin has
shared his enduring love of music with his fellow Texans both as a
performer and through his work in radio and television, and when
traveling in other states with his band he will be an ideal music
ambassador for the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby commend Allen Martin for his varied and
long-standing contributions to Texas music and extend to him
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Martin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives and Senate.
