CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Neal McCoy of Longview has distinguished himself as
a devoted family man, a dedicated humanitarian, and one of the
bright lights of modern country music; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, Mr. McCoy and his wife of 22 years, Melinda,
established the East Texas Angel Network in an effort to assist
families of children with serious illnesses; to date, this
noteworthy charitable foundation has raised more than $2 million
and has helped more than 100 families; and
WHEREAS, Many of Mr. McCoy's loyal friends, including Nolan
Ryan, Charley Pride, Lorrie Morgan, Bryan White, Bill Engvall, B.
J. Thomas, Collin Raye, Martina McBride, the Dallas Cowboy
Cheerleaders, Bo Derek, Rob Schneider, Kevin Sharp, Troy Aikman,
and General Tommy Franks, have unselfishly championed the
outstanding efforts of the East Texas Angel Network; and
WHEREAS, A true patriot and a wholehearted supporter of our
armed forces, Mr. McCoy was handpicked by President George W. Bush
to tour with the USO; he risked his own personal safety in order to
entertain and boost the morale of American sailors, soldiers, and
airmen stationed abroad; and
WHEREAS, On May 19, 2003, Mr. McCoy and his wife attended a
White House state dinner honoring Philippine President Gloria
Arroyo as guests of President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush; Mr.
McCoy delighted diners with his performance of the Nat "King" Cole
classic "Unforgettable," wowing those in attendance with his vocal
prowess; and
WHEREAS, Mr. McCoy is a role model for countless citizens of
the Lone Star State and the United States of America, and his
dedication and commitment to helping others is truly inspirational;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas,
3rd Called Session, hereby recognize Neal McCoy on the occasion of
the Ninth Annual Benefit for the East Texas Angel Network and extend
to him profound gratitude for his exceptional and courageous
service to the State of Texas and the United States of America; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. McCoy as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives and Senate.
