R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The West Chamber of Commerce has named West Bank & Trust as its 2003 Business of the Year in recognition of this institution's outstanding banking and customer services; and WHEREAS, Opened in 1893, West Bank & Trust was established by T. M. West, the city's founder, who began holding money and other valuables for customers in the safe of his general store; over the years, the bank gained such a reputation for conservative, honest banking that customers dubbed it "Old Reliable"; and WHEREAS, On August 1, 1920, a group of West citizens purchased the bank's assets, and in April 1921 the owners received a charter for the West State Bank; on January 9, 1934, the bank was granted a national charter and was renamed the West National Bank; then, in 1963, the institution became a state bank again and adopted its current name, West Bank & Trust; and WHEREAS, This independently owned banking concern was ably led by Grady H. Langford, Jr., from 1968 to 1993; since then, current president Charles J. Nemec has controlled operations, continuing the bank's tradition of excellence; and WHEREAS, West Bank & Trust has been a constant friend and supporter of the West Chamber of Commerce, with four bank employees serving as president of the chamber; they are Daniel "Zero" Svrcek, Charles J. Nemec, Darrin Banik, and David W. Nemec; and WHEREAS, For more than a century, West Bank & Trust has epitomized the highest standards of business practice and earned a well-deserved reputation for courteous, dependable, and trusted service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate West Bank & Trust on its selection by the West Chamber of Commerce as the 2003 Business of the Year and extend best wishes for continued success to all those associated with this venerable financial institution; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display at West Bank & Trust as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
