R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On November 15-16, 2003, the congregation of
Tabernacle Baptist Church in Crane is celebrating 70 years of
service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The church traces its history to 1933, when the
Reverend W. L. Massagee traveled from San Angelo each week to lead
area residents in worship; on November 22, 1933, the church was
organized and its earliest members held meetings in the courthouse
until a building could be erected; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding, Tabernacle Baptist Church has
been situated on the same piece of property, although its physical
plant has undergone several expansions and renovations to keep pace
with the congregation's steady and positive growth; its membership
has benefited from the dedicated leadership of 17 pastors through
the years, and today, the Reverend Lyndel Lee works in behalf of the
church and the greater community as the church's current pastor;
and
WHEREAS, For seven decades, Tabernacle Baptist Church has
provided outstanding spiritual and moral guidance, and the church
remains a tribute to the commitment and hard work of its members,
past and present, who have shared their time, energy, and financial
resources to ensure its continued existence as a house of worship;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor all those affiliated
with Tabernacle Baptist Church on the occasion of its 70th
anniversary and extend to them best wishes for a memorable and
fulfilling observance.
