R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Katy Performing Arts Society recently staged a
beautiful and inspiring musical event in remembrance of those who
perished in the attacks of September 11, 2001, with all proceeds of
the evening benefitting the Katy Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, The benefit event, held with the participation of
the First United Methodist Church Choir and the West Houston-Katy
Children's Chorus, featured American music, including an original
work performed by the Katy Symphony Orchestra and Katy Wind
Symphony and composed by the society's artistic and music director,
Adam Levowitz; and
WHEREAS, The Katy Performing Arts Society was founded in 2002
to bring together professional musicians, actors, dancers, and
singers to perform acclaimed symphonies, operas, ballets, and
Broadway musicals; the citizens of Katy have responded as
enthusiastically as arts critics, and plans are now under way to
build a world-class performing arts center that will feature a
theater, concert hall, rehearsal space, recording studio, and art
gallery; and
WHEREAS, In its first year the Katy Performing Arts Society
has expanded its repertoire to include such masterworks as
Rossini's The Barber of Seville, Beethoven's Fifth Symphony,
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's
Dream; its highly talented members and supporters can take immense
pride in the role they have played in the cultural and economic
development of the Katy community, for their contributions have
greatly enriched the lives of their fellow Lone Star residents;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Katy Performing
Arts Society for its moving performance titled "Now Come the Names:
A Tribute to the Victims of September 11" and extend best wishes to
its director and members for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Katy Performing Arts Society as an expression of
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
