H.R. No. 46 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On October 5, 2003, the members of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church are celebrating two momentous events in the history of their church -- 127 years of service to residents of the Houston metropolitan community and the dedication of a Texas historical marker; and WHEREAS, Located at 4819 Hershe at Solo Street in Houston's Fifth Ward, the church has played a key role in the spiritual development of countless Texans since its establishment in 1876; and WHEREAS, Over the course of a remarkable history spanning nearly 13 decades, the church has benefited from the leadership of only five pastors, including the Reverend Roy L. Jackson, who today leads the congregation in offering support, hope, and guidance to those in need through the church's various ministries; and WHEREAS, For 127 years, Mount Pleasant Baptist Church has provided outstanding spiritual leadership and moral guidance to families living in the Bayou City; the church remains a tribute to its leaders and laity who through the years have devoted their time, energy, and resources to ensure its continued existence as a house of worship; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on the occasion of its 127th anniversary and on the dedication of a Texas historical marker and that the Reverend Roy L. Jackson and the members of his congregation be extended heartfelt best wishes for a memorable and fulfilling observance; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mount Pleasant Baptist Church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
