R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 70th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and on September 27, 2003, Thelma Jean Carson Taylor of Houston is marking this significant milestone in her life in the company of her loved ones; and WHEREAS, A native Texan, she was born on September 26, 1933, in Houston, the second of nine children of George and Susie Carson; she attended James D. Burrus School and Phillis Wheatley Senior High School before going on to Franklin Barber School and launching her career as a barber in the city's Fifth Ward; and WHEREAS, This lovely lady married Edward Taylor and dedicated herself to providing a warm and welcoming home for her family; she is the mother of three children, Brenda J. Simon, Kenneth R. Carson, and Jacqueline E. Greene, and her family has expanded to include three grandchildren, Shawana Holcombe, William Greene, and Krystal Greene, and three great-grandchildren, Daizja Daniels, Davonte Holcombe, and Dee "Baby Brother" Holcombe; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Taylor developed a deep faith in God from an early age, and she was an active member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Studewood Heights section of the Bayou City; today, she is a valued congregant of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in the city's Fifth Ward, and she has served as a valuable resource for young and old alike in her community; and WHEREAS, A respected participant in local and state political campaigns and civil rights organizations, Mrs. Taylor enjoys annual trips with the Christian Travelers, a group of people from churches across the city that together attend church conventions; and WHEREAS, For 70 years, Thelma Jean Carson Taylor has enriched the lives of countless Texans with her warmth and wisdom, and she is cherished by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Thelma Jean Carson Taylor on the joyous occasion of her 70th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Taylor as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
