H.R. No. 52
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of Rio Frio are mourning the loss of Susie
Davis Nichols, who passed away on August 18, 2003, at the age of 93;
and
WHEREAS, A native of Uvalde County, Mrs. Nichols was born on
August 11, 1910, and she remained in Uvalde and Real counties
throughout her life; she pursued careers as a rancher and
schoolteacher, and she was also a member of the Leakey United
Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Daughters
of the Republic of Texas; and
WHEREAS, She married Leroy Nichols in San Antonio on
September 21, 1934, and the couple enjoyed a rich and rewarding
relationship until his passing; and
WHEREAS, Susie Davis Nichols was a beloved wife and mother, a
dear friend, and a dedicated member of her community, and while she
will be greatly missed, her memory will live on in the hearts and
minds of the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Susie Davis Nichols and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
her family: to her daughters, Gail Nichols, Patricia Burrier,
Elaine Duderstadt, Sudie Burditt, and Dusty Nichols-Thompson; to
her son, Charles W. Nichols; to her sister, Lora B. Garrison; to her
brother, Bob Davis; to her 11 grandchildren and 19
great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many friends;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Susie Davis
Nichols.
