H.R. No. 54 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Presbyterian Hospital of Allen has been awarded "distinguished" certification by the Texas Department of Health (TDH) for the facility's Newborn Hearing Screening Program; and WHEREAS, Managed by Inez Brown, R.N., the hospital's excellent program was initiated after the passage of House Bill 714 during the 76th Texas Legislature; the bill mandates the testing of newborns for hearing loss, since significant hearing impairment is a common developmental problem present at birth; and WHEREAS, The staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Allen provides an exceptional service to the families of newborn babies, beginning with its offer of a hearing screen for infants during the birth admission; 98 percent of newborns are consequently screened at that time, and though 95 percent of the babies tested pass the birth admission screening process, those with abnormal results are reported to their attending physicians or health care provider, as well as to TDH; and WHEREAS, Presbyterian Hospital of Allen staff members are dedicated to bettering the quality of life for citizens of all ages, and it is most appropriate that this fine health care facility be recognized at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the staff members of Presbyterian Hospital of Allen for earning "distinguished" certification from the Texas Department of Health for their Newborn Hearing Screening Program and extend to them best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Presbyterian Hospital of Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
