R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, August 31, 2003, marked the retirement of Robert J. Whorton from the audit division of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, drawing to a close an outstanding 24-year career with that agency; and WHEREAS, Mr. Whorton, a U.S. Air Force veteran, joined the comptroller's office on June 19, 1979, working as an auditor in the Austin out-of-state audit group; he later transferred to the Houston South Audit Office and then to the Houston North Audit Office, where he served in audit select for three years, participated in the telecommuting pilot program, and was given a special assignment to work in Pennsylvania for a year; and WHEREAS, In his leisure time Mr. Whorton enjoys playing tennis and other outdoor sports; he ran in the 1985 Houston Tenneco Marathon, and he served as the coach and pitcher for the Houston North Audit Office softball team; and WHEREAS, Mr. Whorton is a devoted father of two daughters, Sharon Kay Trencher and Rose Marie Aprill, as well as the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Madeleine Marie and Landon Robert; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Robert Whorton has served the State of Texas with integrity and dedication, earning the lasting respect of all who have been privileged to work with him, and it is a pleasure to recognize his exemplary tenure with the state as he embarks on this exciting new chapter in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Robert Whorton for his notable career with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and extend to him best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Whorton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
