H.R. No. 68 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 75th anniversary of the Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many noteworthy achievements of this fine organization; and WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated on October 17, 2003, at the Inter-Continental Houston Hotel; featured guests are Linda Marie White, national president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; Shirley Fisher, south central regional director of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; and Hazel Hainesworth Young, the only living founder of the Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1928, Alpha Kappa Omega remains steadfast in its commitment to the founders' ideals; building on a 75-year-long legacy of civic, cultural, and charitable projects, this chapter's current 450-person membership continues to contribute to programs in the Houston area that enhance education, physical and mental health, economic development, political awareness, the African-American family, and the fine arts; and WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Omega has over the years positively influenced the lives of countless individuals, and it is a distinct pleasure to commend this outstanding organization for its 75 years of service to the Houston community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., on its 75th anniversary and commend its members for their extraordinary civic contributions; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Alpha Kappa Omega as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
