R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Stacey Lee Peebles is commemorating a momentous
occasion with the celebration of his 90th birthday on September 20,
2003; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Polk County, Mr. Peebles was
born in Onalaska to proud parents Mary Miller Peebles and John Riley
Peebles; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran served with distinction in the
Fleet Marine Force of the United States Marine Corps during World
War II and, after his military service, held a notable 41-year
tenure as a supervisor with the Texas Highway Department; and
WHEREAS, In 1937, Mr. Peebles married the love of his life,
Minnie Cockrell, with whom he shared many years of mutual happiness
and devotion; the couple were blessed with a daughter, Rhoda, and
three grandchildren, Ellen Tuffly, Paul Tuffly, and Kelly Brady;
and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Mr. Peebles is the current
trustee for Forrest Hill Cemetery and a valued congregant at the
First Presbyterian Church in Livingston; he enjoys gardening,
dominoes, storytelling, reading, and spending time with his
close-knit family; and
WHEREAS, This beloved gentleman is a source of great pride
and inspiration to his friends and family, and his vivacity of
spirit has immeasurably brightened the lives of all who are
privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby heartily congratulate
Stacey Lee Peebles on the occasion of his 90th birthday and extend
to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Peebles as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
