H.R. No. 76 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Ira Walton of Waco recently competed in the 17th annual National Veterans Golden Age Games in Orono, Maine, and his outstanding performance merits special recognition; and WHEREAS, Each year this national, multievent sports and recreational competition draws hundreds of veterans from around the country and provides a clear demonstration of the therapeutic value of sports in the lives of older Americans; and WHEREAS, A unique combination of competition and camaraderie, the games provide not only an opportunity for our country's older veterans to engage in beneficial physical activities but also an occasion to renew the bonds of friendship with fellow servicemen and servicewomen; and WHEREAS, Mr. Walton participated in four events and, demonstrating remarkable prowess, beat out his competition to claim the gold medals in checkers, horseshoes, and table tennis and the silver medal in dominoes; at 80 years of age, this talented U.S. Army veteran has proven he is still a fierce contender, and it is a pleasure to pay tribute to him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Ira Walton for his many successes at the 17th National Veterans Golden Age Games and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Walton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
