H.R. No. 96
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Diana De Los Santos Marroquin of Donna is the
recipient of the Guzman Elementary Teacher of the Year Award for
2002-2003; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Marroquin was selected by the Donna Independent
School District for this prestigious honor on the basis of several
criteria, including serving as an outstanding role model for her
colleagues and demonstrating highly effective teaching practices
in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, An honors graduate of The University of Texas-Pan
American, she earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1979 and a
master's degree in education in 2001; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional teacher began her career as an
assistant in migrant school summer programs in Alabama and Indiana;
after student teaching at Guzman Elementary School, she joined the
Weslaco Independent School District, where she taught fourth and
fifth grade for 11 years, wrote a science curriculum for the
district, and presented in-service science training; and
WHEREAS, Widely respected for her ability and leadership,
Mrs. Marroquin has coordinated science fairs at the elementary
school level, promoted fire prevention activities, and served on a
number of education-related committees; her current
responsibilities include managing the computer lab at Guzman
Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, In her personal time she volunteers with the Texas
Council on Family Violence, Women Together (Mujeres Unidas), and
the Juvenile Court Conference Committee; and
WHEREAS, Diana De Los Santos Marroquin exemplifies the
highest standards of the education profession, and it is a pleasure
to join in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Diana De Los
Santos Marroquin on being named the Guzman Elementary Teacher of
the Year for 2002-2003 by the Donna Independent School District and
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and
happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Marroquin as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
