R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 60th wedding anniversary of two outstanding
Texans is indeed an occasion worthy of celebration, and this year
Orville and Dorothy "Jackie" Berry of Weslaco commemorated just
such a memorable event; and
WHEREAS, The Berrys were united in matrimony in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, on September 8, 1943, while Mr. Berry was serving in
the United States Army Air Corps in Fort Worth and his bride was
working as an aircraft communicator; following Mr. Berry's military
service, the couple moved to Ames, Iowa, where Mr. Berry earned a
degree in agronomy from Iowa State University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Berry was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation
Service in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin; he retired in 1978, and
at that time Mrs. Berry ended her tenure as a school secretary and
the couple moved to Texas; and
WHEREAS, Living in Austin for a number of years, Mr. and Mrs.
Berry remained active as volunteers at the LBJ Library and the Lady
Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, as Elderhostel co-hosts for The
University of Texas at Austin, and as ushers at various theaters in
Austin; the couple are now valued members of the Methodist church in
Weslaco and residents of John Knox Village; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate their milestone anniversary, the
Berrys took a five-day cruise to Cozumel and Calica with their son
and daughter-in-law, David and Donna, their daughter and
son-in-law, Jan and Chris, and their two cherished granddaughters,
Geri and Annette; and
WHEREAS, For the past six decades, Orville and Jackie Berry
have enjoyed a relationship built on love, trust, and mutual
respect, and it is truly a privilege to join in honoring this
remarkable couple and to pay tribute to their enduring marriage;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Orville and
Jackie Berry on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness.
