R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 50th wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans is indeed an occasion worthy of celebration, and this year Harry and Frances Burke of McDade commemorated just such a memorable event in their marriage; and WHEREAS, Native Texans, the Burkes met while attending Elgin High School, and they went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin together, where he earned a degree in geology and she was awarded a degree in physical education; over the ensuing years, Mrs. Burke did some modeling and enjoyed a career as a physical education teacher for more than 30 years, and Mr. Burke worked in the oil industry; in 1964, the couple settled in McDade, where Mr. Burke followed in his father's footsteps as a cattle rancher; and WHEREAS, Since their retirement, the Burkes have remained active in their community as members of the Pine Village Civic Association and the First Baptist Church of Spring Branch; in addition, they enjoy spending time outdoors and entertaining family and friends at their Twelve-O Ranch; and WHEREAS, On August 16, 2003, the couple celebrated this milestone in their marriage during a reception at their church in the company of 200 relatives and friends; and WHEREAS, For 50 years, Harry and Frances Burke have enjoyed a union built on love, trust, and mutual respect, and it is truly a privilege to join in honoring this remarkable couple and to pay tribute to their enduring marriage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Harry and Frances Burke on the joyous occasion of their golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness together; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Burkes as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
