R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On August 28, 2003, the Hope of South Texas
organization hosted its 17th Annual Roast and Fundraiser and paid
special tribute to Janey Lack of Victoria, a notable community
leader who has given generously of herself to make the Lone Star
State a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, An alumna of the University of Michigan, Mrs. Lack
completed, with distinction, the Harvard-Radcliffe Program in
Business Administration in 1964, and a year later she earned her MBA
at the Harvard Graduate School of Business and joined the staff of
McKinsey & Co. as a management consultant; she has served as vice
president of marketing and advertising for Lack's Stores since
1992; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Lack has devoted much of her life to supporting
civic and charitable endeavors, including the HEAR Foundation, the
Hope of South Texas, a nonprofit group that works to prevent sexual
violence in the six-county area near Victoria, and the Citizens
Medical Center, which has recently appointed her to its board of
directors; she is a strong supporter of higher education programs,
serving since 1988 as a member of the advisory council for The
University of Texas at Austin, College of Education Foundation, and
since 2000 as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council at the
University of Michigan, LSA College; in addition, she is a
recipient of the South Texas Woman Award and has been recognized by
the Texas Mid-Coast Reading Council for her work as a literacy
advocate; and
WHEREAS, Her belief in the importance of helping others has
also led her to seek public office; she is a former member of the
Victoria City Council, having served her constituents with
integrity for seven years; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of her illustrious career as a
businesswoman, elected official, and community leader, Janey Lack
has distinguished herself as an individual of commitment, courage,
and compassion, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Janey Lack of
Victoria for her exceptional contributions to her community and
state and extend to her best wishes for much success and happiness
in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Lack as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
