H.R. No. 123
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of Uvalde was the site of a memorable event
in 2003 when more than 1,500 residents of the community
participated in the world's largest cumbia dance and set a Guinness
World Record to the delight of their fellow Texans; and
WHEREAS, Led by Tejano singing star Emilio, the jovial crowd
represented approximately 10 percent of the town's population as
they gathered for the dance on the Leona Riverwalk; and
WHEREAS, Setting the world record for the world's largest
cumbia has brought Uvalde citizens closer together by highlighting
their community spirit and shared heritage, and this fun-filled
occasion will undoubtedly be a source of tremendous pride and many
fond memories for residents of Uvalde in the years to come; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the organizers and
participants of the world's largest cumbia dance in Uvalde who set
the Guinness World Record and commend them for their sense of civic
pride and good-natured fun.
