R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Commerce is paying tribute to former university president Dr. Charles J. Austin by naming the Industrial Engineering and Technology Building in honor of this esteemed gentleman; and WHEREAS, An Ohio native who holds degrees from Xavier University, the University of Colorado, and the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Austin served as president and CEO of TAMU--Commerce from February 1982 through December 1986; and WHEREAS, During his tenure, Dr. Austin implemented numerous bold initiatives, including the establishment of a new organizational structure designed to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the university's academic and administrative offices; and WHEREAS, Dr. Austin also endeavored to boost the university's reputation by raising academic standards, supporting scholarly research, and increasing endowment and scholarship funds; furthermore, he oversaw the remodeling of several campus buildings and instituted a campus-wide beautification program; and WHEREAS, Few individuals have contributed as much to the success of TAMU--Commerce as has Dr. Austin, and his noteworthy efforts have truly been vital to the continued growth and prosperity of this outstanding educational facility; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the dedication of the Charles J. Austin Industrial Engineering and Technology Building and commend Dr. Austin for his myriad contributions to Texas A&M University--Commerce.
