R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Vicki Davis, retired faculty member and administrator at Texas A&M University--Commerce, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Spirit of Mayo Award; and WHEREAS, Named in honor of William L. Mayo, founder of Texas A&M University--Commerce, the Spirit of Mayo Award recognizes individuals who embody the credo "ceaseless industry, fearless investigation, unfettered thought, and unselfish service to others"; and WHEREAS, Dr. Davis earned bachelor's and master's degrees in home economics from TAMU--Commerce, and a doctorate in child development and family living, counseling, and home economics education from Texas Woman's University; in 1966, she began her distinguished tenure at Texas A&M University--Commerce as an assistant instructor of home economics; and WHEREAS, Over the years, she served as associate professor and department head for the home economics department, associate professor of counseling and guidance, and assistant vice president and associate vice president for Academic Affairs; at the time of her retirement in 2002, Dr. Davis held the position of interim provost and vice president for academic and student affairs; and WHEREAS, During her tenure, this esteemed scholar directed the university's Freshman Success Seminar from 1990-1992 and provided leadership in the development of many new academic and service programs; and WHEREAS, Dr. Davis has amassed a long and distinguished record of academic achievement and service to the university and is truly a worthy recipient of the Spirit of Mayo Award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Vicki Davis on receiving the Spirit of Mayo Award and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Davis as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
