H.R. No. 138R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Since moving to Brazoria County in 1984, Frederick Jackson has been an active volunteer in his community, proving himself a doer who has made things happen and a humanitarian who has always looked out for the welfare of others; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson joined the newly formed Martin Luther King Celebration Committee when only two cities in the county recognized the holiday, and, today, thanks to his efforts, the event is celebrated throughout the county; and WHEREAS, His volunteerism has benefitted numerous local organizations, including the United Way, the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences, Junior Achievement, the Brazoria County Fair Association, Brazoria County Debutante, Inc., the City of Lake Jackson, and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson is highly appreciated by these organizations for his myriad contributions; in 2001, the United Way presented him with its prestigious Colegrove Award, naming him its volunteer of the year; in 2000, he was given the Salt of the Earth Award by Image magazine, and the Martin Luther King Celebration Committee has presented him with its Founder Award; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has never met a man, woman, or child that he did not fondly recall at their next meeting; the countless people whose lives he has touched most often describe him as someone who really cares, someone who has seen needs and done his best to fulfill them, and someone who has taken dreams and worked hard to turn them into realities; and WHEREAS, Throughout his time as a resident of Brazoria County, Mr. Jackson has proven himself to be a volunteer of the highest caliber, and, as he leaves his many friends in the area to move to Lubbock, it is most appropriate to honor him for the instrumental role he has had in so many organizations and to thank him for the dedication, leadership, and support he has so freely given all these years; and WHEREAS, The measure of a successful man is whether he leaves a place better than he found it, and Mr. Jackson has truly left southern Brazoria County a better place for his having lived there; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Frederick Jackson on his selfless service to his fellow Texans and extend to him sincere appreciation for his many good works and deeds; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
