H.R. No. 144


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The citizens of Austin lost a distinguished community leader and activist on September 10, 2003, when Charles Hallmark passed away, leaving a host of friends and admirers to deeply mourn his untimely death; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hallmark selflessly devoted much of his life to making his community a better place; since 1998, this noble gentleman lent full-time support to the many important causes he aided, including the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas, Project Transitions, and the Texas Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League; and WHEREAS, An activist in the fight against acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), this exceptional Texan worked with AIDS Services of Austin, where he helped to promote AIDS education and understanding and organized annual fund-raisers like the AIDS Walk of Austin; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Charles Hallmark will not quickly forget the rare courage and compassion he displayed in every facet of his life; demonstrating an unyielding determination to correct society's injustices, his dedication earned him the lasting respect and affection of countless friends and community residents, and his spirit will forever brighten and warm their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles Hallmark and extend deepest sympathy to his family and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hallmark.
