R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A 50th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and on September 30, 2003, Paul M. Wattles of Liberty Hill, Texas, will commemorate this notable occasion in the company of his family and many friends; and WHEREAS, A native of Tucson, Arizona, Mr. Wattles was born in 1953, the same year that the first Chevrolet Corvette was manufactured, that scientists first identified DNA, and that Tucson-based television stations KOLD and KVOA first began broadcasting; he shares his birth year with such well-known figures as British Prime Minister Tony Blair, director and actor Ron Howard, and guitarist Robert Cray; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wattles graduated from Benson Union High School in 1971 and went on to study journalism at Pima Community College, where he was editor of the Aztec News, and at the University of Arizona; at both institutions he set new standards of excellence and received numerous journalism awards; and WHEREAS, After graduation, he embarked on a career in government, serving as press secretary for two United States senators and a United States congressman; he moved to Austin in 1984 and has since worked in the private sector; and WHEREAS, This esteemed professional is also a devoted husband and father, whose dedication to his career is surpassed only by his commitment to his family; he is supported in all that he does by his wife, Sandra, and his two cherished children, Matthew and Jackie; and WHEREAS, Paul Wattles has enjoyed five decades of life, love, and laughter, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring him and celebrating this special day in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Paul M. Wattles on the momentous occasion of his 50th birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Wattles as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
