R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Texas A&M University--Commerce alumnus Gene Casselberry has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Spirit of Mayo Award; and WHEREAS, Named in honor of William L. Mayo, founder of Texas A&M University--Commerce, the Spirit of Mayo Award recognizes individuals who embody the credo "ceaseless industry, fearless investigation, unfettered thought, and unselfish service to others"; and WHEREAS, Mr. Casselberry graduated from the university in 1965, receiving a bachelor's degree in agricultural education, and earned a master's degree in educational administration in 1966; during his college years, he served in student government and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity; and WHEREAS, For more than three decades, this business leader has worked at Drake Furniture, where he has employed many students of his alma mater; he remains a valued member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and Foundation Board and has received the Gold Blazer Award for his dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Active in a host of worthy organizations, Mr. Casselberry was named Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1988; he is currently board president of the United Way of Commerce and the Commerce Water District and contributes his time and talents to the Downtown Merchants Association and the Downtown Celebration of Lights Committee; and WHEREAS, Mr. Casselberry's commendable record of service to his alma mater and his community makes him a truly worthy recipient of the Spirit of Mayo Award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Gene Casselberry on receiving the Spirit of Mayo Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Casselberry as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
