H.R. No. 167


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Glenn Martin is retiring as mayor of Port Aransas, concluding a remarkable tenure that has benefited the residents of this fine city and earned him the abiding respect of his colleagues, friends, and fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, Elected in 1998, Mayor Martin worked to promote a healthy business climate while preserving the character and uniqueness of his city and protecting area natural resources; during his tenure as mayor, he was instrumental in expanding the city's parks system, including the addition of a citywide hike and bike trail, and he played a key role in securing and preserving thousands of acres of Texas wildlife habitat for the enjoyment of residents and visitors alike; and WHEREAS, Mayor Martin led efforts to prevent shoreline erosion on the Corpus Christi Ship Channel and negotiated state and federal fishery regulations designed to promote economic benefit for the area while simultaneously protecting this valuable natural resource; he also worked in partnership to create two popular birding sites in Port Aransas that are featured attractions of the Great Texas Birding Trail; and WHEREAS, Glenn Martin has provided visionary leadership and capable guidance for the citizens of Port Aransas during his term as mayor, and his exemplary efforts in this endeavor are worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mayor Glenn Martin on the occasion of his retirement and extend best wishes to him for continued success and happiness in the next chapter of his life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Martin as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
