R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Residents of San Antonio are mourning the loss of Joe D. Edmonson, Sr., a beloved neighbor and civic leader, who passed away on September 19, 2003; and WHEREAS, A native of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Mr. Edmonson graduated from Morris Brown College in Atlanta and moved to San Antonio in 1974, to serve as a personnel management specialist at Randolph Air Force Base; he retired in 1989 as chief of the Employee Utilization Division for HQ Air Training Command; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman gave generously of his time and talents to a host of worthy civic organizations and initiatives; for a number of years, he chaired the board for AVANCE, Inc., and the Bexar County Appraisal Review Board, and he had recently founded the African American Concerned Citizens Group; at the time of his passing, he was serving as secretary for the University Health System Board of Managers and as a member of the Humanistic Board for Research and Development at Trinity University; and WHEREAS, A member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Circle of Friends Outer Circle, and many other social organizations, he enjoyed reading, bridge, golf, and attending sports activities with his grandsons; and WHEREAS, Joe Edmonson was a man whose natural leadership ability, passion for learning, and positive attitude made a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him, and while he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Joe D. Edmonson, Sr., and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Edith Joy Stubbs Edmonson; to his sons, Joe David Edmonson, Jr., and Keith Andre Edmonson; to his grandsons, Brandon and Julian Edmonson; to his sisters, Johnettee Edmonson Brown, Frances Edmonson Evans, Jane Edmonson Slaughter, Mildred Edmonson Armstrong, and Margaret Edmonson McMillan; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Joe D.
