R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Over the course of the past two decades, Dr. William 
Michael Carpenter of Dallas has distinguished himself as a surgeon, 
physician, and health researcher of the highest caliber, and his 
myriad contributions to his profession and community are most 
deserving of special recognition; and
	WHEREAS, The son of Neil Carpenter, a petroleum engineer, and 
Claudine Carpenter, a dedicated mother and homemaker, Dr. Carpenter 
was raised on a ranch in Kerrville on the Guadalupe River, and  he 
enjoyed an active childhood with his brothers, Bow, Scott, and 
David; and
	WHEREAS, He went on to attend Texas Tech University, where he 
earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in science, and later 
served as a research assistant at the school's Department of 
Neurosurgery and Department of Biological Sciences, devoting 
himself to the study of experimental chemotherapy agents and tumor 
viruses; in 1986 he completed medical school at his alma mater's 
Health Sciences Center-School of Medicine and, that same year, 
joined the staff of Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas as a 
surgical resident; and
	WHEREAS, Dr. Carpenter pursued an additional residency at 
Nashville's Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1991, 
perfecting his skills in plastic and reconstructive surgery, and 
two years later returned to the Lone Star State to open his own 
private practice and to contribute his considerable talents to 
Baylor University's breast cancer reconstruction program; and
	WHEREAS, A devoted family man as well, Dr. Carpenter and his 
wife, Sheri, are the proud parents of three children,  Catherine, 
Cole, and Case; when not at the office or hospital, he can often be 
found spending time with his family, working in the yard, painting, 
or fly fishing; and
	WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan has garnered many 
prestigious accolades from his colleagues; he has also devoted his 
entire professional life toward the prevention and treatment of 
breast cancer, and through his compassion, skill, and intelligence 
Dr. Carpenter has helped to bring hope to countless patients and 
their families; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the 
achievements of William Michael Carpenter, M.D., and extend to him 
best wishes for continued success and happiness in all his 
endeavors; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Dr. Carpenter as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
