R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Rosa Walker from the Texas AFL-CIO
brings to a close an outstanding 38-year career dedicated to the
working men and women of Texas; and
WHEREAS, Highly regarded in the labor movement, Ms. Walker
directs community services and volunteers for the Texas
organization; among her other responsibilities, she coordinates
union disaster relief operations, voter registration and
get-out-the-vote drives, lobbying activities in behalf of numerous
issues, and preparations for special events; and
WHEREAS, A Hemphill native and Pineland High School alumna,
Ms. Walker joined the Communication Workers of America (CWA)
through her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, later
taking on the role of a commercial job steward and member of CWA's
executive board; she became a full-time organizer for the AFL-CIO's
industrial union department, worked with the Harris County AFL-CIO,
and, since 1965, has been on staff with the Texas AFL-CIO, including
serving as women's activities director; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional individual and Texas Women's Hall
of Fame member contributes her time and resources in behalf of many
worthy endeavors at the national, statewide, and local levels; she
has served as state vice president of the Texas Coalition of Labor
Union Women, is a founder of the Texas Consumer Association, a
member of the Democratic National Committee, and a past member of
the Texas Judicial Conduct Commission; she was a pioneer in the
armed forces as well, becoming the first female sergeant in the
United States Army; and
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Ms. Walker enjoys the support
of her family, including her devoted husband, Boyce Breedlove, and
her daughter, Debbie; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Rosa Walker has adhered to
the highest standards of professionalism, and she has earned the
lasting admiration of all who know her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Rosa Walker on
her retirement from the Texas AFL-CIO and commend her for her
steadfast dedication to the citizens of the Lone Star State; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Walker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
