R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On September 8, 2003, the Del Valle Independent School District celebrated the dedication of John P. Ojeda Junior High School, and this event will further support the district's continued commitment to serving the citizens of Del Valle; and WHEREAS, Named for former school board trustee and longtime Del Valle resident John Ojeda, this state-of-the-art facility opened its doors to seventh-graders and eighth-graders on August 18, 2003; the school features four classroom wings with eight classrooms each as well as a 4,800-square-foot library and media center; and WHEREAS, Students have access to 200 computers and will benefit from the school's acoustically designed band and choir halls, outstanding art department, top-notch home economics and vocational classrooms, and expansive athletic facilities; former Hillcrest Elementary School principal Jean MacInnis will offer dynamic leadership to the school's faculty, staff, and students, bringing years of experience to this vital role; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ojeda is a product of the Del Valle school system himself, as are his 11 siblings and his two children, making his selection as the school's namesake unique and appropriate; he is the first Hispanic to be elected to the district's board of trustees and faithfully served on the board for three consecutive terms beginning in 1986; and WHEREAS, John P. Ojeda Junior High School is the district's second junior high school, and its opening will undoubtedly usher in a period of superlative educational opportunity and help to meet the needs of Del Valle's young people; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the opening of John P. Ojeda Junior High School and offer best wishes to all those associated with this fine new school; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the staff and students of John P.
