H.R. No. 201
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, To mark their 50th wedding anniversary, James and
Pat Morriss of Midland enjoyed a family dinner and a reception, and
they will celebrate further with a trip to Scotland and England
given by their children in commemoration of this significant
milestone in their marriage; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Morriss and the former Patricia Ann Skaggs were
joined in marriage on September 19, 1953, in Van Alstyne, and their
close and enduring relationship has been the source of much
happiness and contentment for these two committed individuals; and
WHEREAS, The heart of a close-knit family, Mr. and Mrs.
Morriss have been blessed with three daughters and sons-in-law, Di
Ann and Chip Barker, Lisa and Stephen DeShaw, and Karen and Michael
Henson, and seven grandchildren, Alicia, Kimberley, Clint, and Tom
Barker, James Tyrel Snelson, and Garrett and Nathan Henson; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Mr. Morriss's job with Home Insurance
Company took the couple to Midland, and after 10 years, they moved
to Littleton, Colorado, when he answered the call to start the
nondenominational Rocky Mountain Fellowship; once again Midland
residents since they moved back in 1990 to be near family, Mr. and
Mrs. Morriss are valued congregants of the Mid-Cities Community
Church, and Mr. Morriss is employed with the Ellis Funeral Home; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated homemaker throughout her marriage, Mrs.
Morriss has also been an unwavering partner with her husband over
the course of more than 30 years in Christian ministry, and today
the couple continue to provide counseling; Mrs. Morriss displays
her creativity through her involvement with local craft shows,
while her husband sings bass in a Southern gospel music quartet; and
WHEREAS, Together, this devoted couple have nurtured a strong
bond of love and filled each other's lives with great joy, and it is
a privilege to join in honoring them at this time; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate James and Pat
Morriss on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary
and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Morriss as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
