H.R. No. 208
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Ray and Dorothy Buie of Diana marked a
milestone in their lives when they celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on August 20, 2003; and
WHEREAS, The couple were honored on this special day with a
dinner hosted by their sons and daughters-in-law, James R. Buie,
Jr., and Debra Buie and Spike and Denise Buie; also in attendance
were their grandchildren Joni, Zach, and Kati and Larry and Carolyn
Hawkins; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Buie married the former Ms. Hawkins on August
20, 1953, in Diana, with the Reverend Jimmy Powell officiating;
over the years, they have supported each other through many
challenges, including when Mr. Buie was stricken with polio and
began using a wheelchair in 1956; and
WHEREAS, Determined and hardworking, Mr. Buie provided for
his family by teaching school in the New Diana Independent School
District (ISD) for 26 years; Mrs. Buie cared for her family and
worked as a bookkeeper and was an aide in the New Diana ISD;
furthermore, the couple also raised cattle and were able to put
their two sons through college; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Buie have shared an enduring union,
filling each other's lives with many happy times and cherished
family memories, and this achievement truly warrants legislative
recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate James Ray and
Dorothy Buie on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding
anniversary and extend to them best wishes for continued happiness;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Buie as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
