R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans who have shared 55 happy and fulfilling years of marriage is truly a memorable occasion; Starr County residents Mario and Minerva Guillen have celebrated a long and happy union; and WHEREAS, Mario S. Guillen and the former Minerva Hinojosa exchanged their wedding vows on May 30, 1948, at a ceremony held at the Sacred Heart Church in Delmita, Texas; Mr. Guillen, a graduate of Rio Grande City High, was a member of the United States Army and served in one of two major theaters of war, the European Theater of Operations, and completed tours of duty in Africa, France, and Italy; he also established a career with the Texas Highway Department and was also a lifelong hardworking rancher; Mrs. Guillen, a graduate of Texas A&I University, achieved her own personal success as an elementary school teacher in Rio Grande City, where she was highly esteemed by peers, parents, and pupils alike, and together the Guillens built a happy home for their son, Mario A. Guillen; and WHEREAS, This devoted couple have resided together in their home in Rio Grande City for 51 years and are dedicated members of the Immaculate Conception Church; they both take great pride in their family, which includes two grandchildren, Kimberly Guillen and Ryan Guillen, who serves in the 78th Texas Legislature's House of Representatives; and WHEREAS, Active and energetic in their retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Guillen enjoy their time together, spending days at the ranch and quiet afternoons in their garden; their marriage has been enriched by cherished family memories and many joyful times; and WHEREAS, Since becoming husband and wife 55 years ago, this devout couple have enjoyed an enduring relationship that has grown in love and mutual respect with each passing year, and they remain a source of delight and inspiration to the friends with whom they have shared the richness of their life together; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Mario and Minerva Guillen of Rio Grande City on the occasion of their 55th anniversary and extend to them best wishes for much happiness in the years to come; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Guillen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
