R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael B. Hurtt, mayor of the City of
DeSoto, celebrated his birthday on September 24, surrounded by the
love of his family and the warm wishes of his many friends and
supporters; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Hurtt, a native of Wyoming, moved to Dallas in
1971 to attend Mortuary Science College and has lived in the
Metroplex area ever since; the owner of the West/Hurtt Funeral Home
since 1998, he is a respected funeral director who has played a key
role in the success of the Dallas County Funeral Directors
Association and North Texas Funeral Directors Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his many impressive professional
achievements, Mayor Hurtt has actively worked with civic and
charitable organizations to make his community a better place in
which to live, work, and raise a family; he currently serves as
treasurer of the Dallas Zoological Society and as vice chairman of
the Medical Center at Lancaster board of trustees, and in the past
he has held the office of president of the DeSoto Rotary Club,
DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, and the Best Southwest Chambers of
Commerce; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding elected official as well, he has
served the citizens of DeSoto with distinction for the past five
years, first as a city councilman and mayor pro tempore and then as
mayor; his many accomplishments as a businessman, civic leader, and
public servant have earned him the admiration of all those who have
been privileged to know him over the years, and it is fitting at
this time to pay special tribute to his illustrious career; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Honorable
Michael B. Hurtt on the occasion of his birthday and commend his
exemplary efforts in behalf of the City of DeSoto; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mayor Hurtt as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
