H.R. No. 237


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Christine Nix of Waco has been appointed by the governor to the Peace Officer Star of Texas Award Advisory Committee to advise him on the issuance, design, and presentation of the award to peace officers who are injured or killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, A commissioned Texas Peace Officer who has served with distinction for 24 years, she started her career in law enforcement in 1979 as a Temple patrol officer after earning a bachelor of science degree from Hardin-Simmons University; she graduated from the Texas Department of Public Safety's trooper training school in 1984, earned a Texas Master Peace Officer Certification, and, in 1994, became the third female and first African-American female promoted to the Ranger Division; and WHEREAS, Ranger Nix assists with criminal investigations, conducts forensic hypnosis interviews with witnesses and victims, and trains other officers in forensic hypnosis; and WHEREAS, She will graduate in August 2004 from the Intensive Weekend Master of Science Degree program at Sam Houston State University with a degree in criminal justice management and plans to join the university's doctorate program; and WHEREAS, Throughout her distinguished career, Christine Nix has exemplified the qualities of perseverance, integrity, and dedication, and she has long served as an inspiration to her family, her community, and countless individuals across the state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Christine Nix on her appointment to the Peace Officer Star of Texas Award Advisory Committee and extend to her heartfelt best wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Nix as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
