H.R. No. 255
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Darrick Eugene of Austin celebrated his 40th
birthday on September 1, 2003, and this special occasion provides
an ideal opportunity to recognize the many achievements of this
esteemed Texan; and
WHEREAS, An honors student with the first graduating class of
Willowridge High School, Mr. Eugene attended The University of
Texas at Austin, where he majored in government and economics,
making the Dean's List and graduating with honors in 1986; during
the 69th Legislative Session, Mr. Eugene worked for State
Representative Harold V. Dutton, and later he was employed with
Harris County Commissioner El Franco Lee; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from the university, Mr. Eugene
moved to Washington, D.C., to serve as a legislative aide for the
late Congressman Mickey Leland; then, returning to his studies, he
pursued a master's degree in public affairs from the LBJ School and
graduated in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Recruited by AT&T to work in the company's chief
financial officers organization, Mr. Eugene worked for AT&T in
Nashville, Tennessee, Morristown, New Jersey, and Dallas before
coming to Austin, where in 1998 he became the company's director of
state government affairs; after having served with distinction in
that position for several years, Mr. Eugene once again decided to
further his education, and he is currently completing his third
year at The University of Texas School of Law; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his professional and educational
achievements, Mr. Eugene is knowledgeable in international affairs
and is an accomplished traveler who has made repeated visits to
South Africa; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and
support of his family, including his wife, Dr. Chiquita
Watt-Eugene, and daughter, Nzingha Williams-Eugene; and
WHEREAS, This accomplished gentleman will undoubtedly
continue to add to his impressive list of achievements in the years
ahead, and it is a great pleasure to honor him in his 40th year; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Darrick
Eugene on his 40th birthday and extend to him best wishes for
continued success and happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Eugene as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
