R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, 2003 marks the 115th anniversary of the
incorporation of Eagle Lake, and this important milestone is truly
worthy of recognition; and
WHEREAS, Situated on the banks of its namesake, Eagle Lake
was first settled in 1855 by Gamaliel Good and Julia Ann Stephenson
Good, and the couple's home became a stopping place for many
travelers and prospective settlers; Mr. Good and his oldest son
built the Good Hotel, which remained in operation for 50 years; and
WHEREAS, The town began to grow as word of its hospitality,
fertile land, and convenient railways spread, and in 1888, the
people of Eagle Lake voted to incorporate; and
WHEREAS, Eagle Lake is nestled in the Central U.S. Flyway,
and more than 250 species of birds can be seen in the area, which
calls itself "The Goose Hunting Capital of the World"; and
WHEREAS, Proud of their rich heritage, residents of Eagle
Lake are determined to preserve the best of their past while they
join together to build a future that is full of hope and
opportunity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the city of
Eagle Lake on the occasion of its 115th anniversary and extend to
all its citizens sincere best wishes for success in their future
endeavors.
