R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Danny Smith has been named the 2003 Businessman of 
the Year by the Pharr Chamber of Commerce; and
	WHEREAS, The owner of Matt's Cash & Carry, a building 
materials store that was established in 1974, Mr. Smith served as 
general manager for many years before buying the business; today, 
the successful enterprise retains a "mom and pop" flavor as it 
responds to the needs of customers living in San Benito and Pharr; 
and
	WHEREAS, Born in Louisiana, Mr. Smith has been a Texan since 
1971, and he served his country through membership with the Texas 
National Guard; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Smith's commitment to his business, his 
employees, and his community is truly commendable, and it is indeed 
appropriate that he receive special recognition at this time; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Danny Smith on 
being named the 2003 Businessman of the Year by the Pharr Chamber of 
Commerce and extend to him best wishes for continued success and 
happiness in the years to come; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
