R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Donald D. and Billie V. Whitefield will commemorate a momentous event in their lives when they celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on November 13, 2003; and WHEREAS, This devoted couple were married in 1943, three months after meeting at the Fannin Street USO; their enduring union has been blessed with a daughter, Patricia Ann and her husband Ronald Schwertner, and a son, William Harry Whitefield and his wife, Janeal; in addition, Mr. and Mrs. Whitefield are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren; and WHEREAS, A cadet at Ellington Field when he met his wife-to-be, Mr. Whitefield received his wings and served during World War II as navigator on a B-24 Liberator; he and his crew received the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the ETO Ribbon with four battle stars, and the French Croix de Guerre with palm during their service, which included 30 missions over Germany; Mr. Whitefield was recalled for the Korean Conflict, and in 1955 he resigned his commission as captain; and WHEREAS, Mr. Whitefield is the founder and former president of Whitefield Plastics Corporation, and over the years he has made many significant contributions to his community; he worked with the Boy Scouts, served as civic club president, ran for public office, and played as drum major for Houston Highlander Bagpipe Band; and WHEREAS, Also deeply involved in her community, Mrs. Whitefield has volunteered with the Girl Scouts and has served as the first female chairperson of the administrative board at St. Matthews United Methodist Church; a devoted Republican Party activist, she has worked tirelessly as secretary of the party, senatorial district chairperson, election judge, and elector and participated in Heritage and the Republican Women's Club; and WHEREAS, For half a century, Mr. and Mrs. Whitefield have shared a special bond of love, filling each other's lives with many happy times and cherished family memories, and it is truly a privilege to honor them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Donald and Billie Whitefield on the joyous occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary and extend to them best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Whitefield as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
